Teachers and educational institutions have a love affair with ‘new’ ideas. Learning all the new jargon and acronyms have a way of making the learner feel like a member of a new exclusive club. Repackaged ideas are a big hit with teachers.
This video makes me think we might spend a bit too much time repackaging and we need to focus a bit more on refining. Hands on learning, project approach, constructivism…what ever you want to label it, has been around for quite a long time. Maybe we should all take a few minutes to learn from the past.

It was really interesting to come across your post as I viewed this video yesterday. I am hoping to write a post on it too. When I first watched this video I also thought – ‘have there been any changes in education since 1940?!’. After further reading, along with pros and cons of Progressive Education – I realised that maybe we have been putting our ideas together – taking the best (hopefully) of each new ‘fad’ and slowly coming up with a little bit of everything that caters more constructively for all.. might need to will reflect further on my blog post….
I came across this post Whilst on a search for people who were talking about hands on learning, because it is something I am very passionate about. I work with a younger crowd (infants and toddlers) and I think that this sort of hands on education early on is so important, and Iv actually been creating a project based on that if you had a minute to take a look! Id love to hear your feedback
This project is my dream, so feel free to share it if you like. Every little bit of support helps!
